Grow, George James (9 APR 1880 - 13 MAR 1895)

George James Grow, aged 15 years, died March 13th, 1895, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Grow, in this city (Neillsville, Clark County), of peritonitis, after an illness of but one week.

George was born in Colby, April 9th, 1880, and came to this city with his parents in 1883, where they have since resided. He was taken sick last Thursday morning, and on Monday and Tuesday was reported better, but Tuesday evening he grew rapidly worse, and on Wednesday morning at 9:30 the angel of death removed him from the cares and troubles of this earth. He was a quiet, even dispositioned and unassuming boy, with the best of habits.

Upon hearing of his death, his teacher and school mates had the flag hoisted at half mast over the school building to express their sincere grief over the death of their classmate.

George has been a member of the juvenile band since its organization, and played the flute in the Methodist Church each Sunday up to within a week of his death.

The funeral will be held at the Presbyterian Church on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Hill officiating, assisted by Rev. Foster. The remains will be interred in the Neillsville Cemetery.
