Maass, Bernard (3 NOV 1948 - 2 APR 2002)

NECEDAH - Bernard Maass, Necedah, formerly of Greenwood, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon.

Bernie was born Nov. 3, 1948, to Edward and Mary (Tomac) Maass. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1966. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was currently a member of the American Legion Post 0133 in Camp Douglas.

In 1971 he married Sandra Smith and they later divorced. Together they had three children and farmed north of Greenwood until 1986. After moving to Abbotsford he drove semi for Abbyland Meats and later purchased his own truck. In 1992 he moved to Necedah where he resided with his loving wife of six years, Patricia. Together they enjoyed their hobby farm, horseback riding and life. In April of 2000 Bernie left his driving career and began working at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Tomah.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Patricia of Necedah three children, Julie (Greg) Miller of Loyal, Joseph (Jessica) Maass of Marshfield and Nicole (Thomas) Larson of Madison two stepchildren, Kelly (Jason) Mikula of Sun Prairie and Lonny Ziegler (special friend Nikki Hon) of Lodi his mother, Mary Maass of Greenwood sister, Kathleen (Harmon) Lookhoff of Annandale, N.J. grandchildren, Christina Miller, Olivia Maass, Chase and Conor Mikula, and Kimberly, Ashley and Whitney Hon In-laws, Vernon and Betty Jensen of Necedah.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Maass and brother, Gerald Maass.

Bernie will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to relatives, friends and co-workers. A very special thank you for all the support and generosity of the Wal-Mart family at DC 6085.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be made for the Children's Miracle Network.
