Schefus, Herman (1909 - 1983)


Herman Schefus, 74, of 500 N. Division, Loyal, Clark County, died on Monday morning, Nov. 28, 1983, of an apparent heart attack while shoveling snow at his home.

Funeral services for Mr. Schefus will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, 1983, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. Rev. Joseph R. Kraly will officiate.

Interment will be in the Loyal Cemetery, with Erwin Dux, Herman Noeldner, Verlund Dux, Nathan Noeldner, Herb Hinkelmann and Vern Dahlby serving as pallbearers. Rinka Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitations will be after 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal.

Herman Schefus was born on July 16, 1909, at Fairfax, Minn. to August and Emma (nee Bakeberg) Schefus. He received his education at rural Unity Schools.

On June 6, 1934, he and Ella Fravert were married at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. He farmed in the Town of Beaver until 1959, when he moved to the City of Loyal and worked for the city. In 1966, hem moved to Marshfield and worked for Modern of Marshfield. He then moved to Unity for a year and moved back to Loyal, one year later, where he was a resident and caretaker for Hometown Village Apartments.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. James (Barbara) Mercer of Marshfield one son, Dennis Leon Schefus of Waukesha four half-brothers, Edwin Kuester of Rhinelander, Henry Kuester of Waukesha, Harry Kuester of Waukesha and Alfred Kuester of Hillsboro, Wis. four half-sisters, Mrs. Florence Welch of Tomahawk, Mrs. Minnie Schmidt of Town, N.D., Mrs. Leona May of Lisbon, Ohio and Mrs. Lillian Darton of Greenwood seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death besides his wife, Ella in 1965, were two half-brothers.
