Brenner, Karen Rose Marie (1942 - 1983)


Karen Rose Marie Brenner, 40, of 410 Draper, Loyal, Clark County, died on Monday, June 20, 1983, of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brenner will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 1983, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph R. Kraly. Burial will be in the Loyal Cemetery.

Visitations will be after 3 p.m., Wednesday, and from 9:30 a.m., Thursday until the time of services.

Karen Roberts was born on Dec. 1, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Gordon and Vera (nee Bombach) Roberts. She graduated from Loyal High School in 1960.

She came to the Loyal area in 1956 with her parents. After graduating from high school, she attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Marshfield, graduating in 1963. Working as a registered nurse, she was employed by St. Joseph's Hospital, the Marshfield Clinic and the Clark County Public Health Department.

On May 23, 1964, she and George Brenner were married at South Green Grove Church.

In 1972, Mrs. Brenner was having a routine pre-natal checkup when it was discovered she had Hodgkin's Disease. She underwent successful cancer therapy and had been cancer-free for 11 years. As a result of the therapy, she suffered spinal cord damage, which had left her a high level paraplegic since 1973.

Since her illness, she had developed her hobby in ceramics into a business called The Ceramic Room.

In 1981, she was elected to the Board of Directors of the Loyal Chamber of Commerce and was named the chamber president.

Mrs. Brenner had also been active in the girl Scouts and Brownies and was a member of the Girl Scout Council She also served as a camp director and nurse for the Girl Scouts, assisted with the Red Cross Blood Bank, belonged to the Clark County Homemakers, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

In 1977, she helped organize the Arts and Crafts Sale in Loyal, a venture which has attracted many other people with creative hobbies and businesses.

Surviving her are her husband, George three sons, Steve, Dean and George, Jr., all at home her mother, Mrs. Vera Roberts of Loyal and one brother, Gordon Michael Roberts of Ringwood, N.J.

Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Ashbeck, Lanny Stewart, Norman Schmidt, Tom Brussow, Gerald Zettler and Robert Bertz.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Roberts.

Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, is handling arrangements.
