Bertz, Jane Carol (27 September 1928 – 20 December 2020)

Jane Carol (Smith) Bertz was born on the Sept. 27, 1928, and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020. She was born to Vera (Garvin) Smith and David Smith in rural Loyal, Wis. She was raised and attended elementary school in the farming township of Beaver. Jane graduated from Loyal High School in 1946 where she met the love of her life and husband, John “Jack” Raymond Bertz. They were married on Aug. 12, 1950, remaining together for just short of 70 years when Jack passed away in November of 2019. They left behind five children, Peter, Paul, Lauren, Phillip and Patrick; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren, with more on the way.

Jane was a loving mother, wife and always had a soft spot in her heart for family and friends. Anyone who would visit would be expected to stay and have something to eat. She always had homemade cookies and other delicacies to share. She supported Jack in his many enterprising events including spending several years in Ettrick, managing the restaurant/bowling alley, Tranhaus. Jane was also very active in ancestry and had collected a detailed genealogy of both the Bertz and Smith family's ancestry.

Plans are being made to have a memorial service in Loyal, in the Spring of 2021. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com

Gunderson West Funeral & Cremation Care, 7435 University Ave., (608) 831-6761
