Benjamin Franklin Chase
My great great, grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Chase, was born in Buxton Maine. He moved to Wisconsin in the 1850s has been considered a pioneer of Clark County. Before the war he was in Weston Rapids which is just down the road from Neillsville. He studied law under justice Dewhurst and was the county clerk. At forty-five, he joined the 19th Wisconsin volunteer infantry, serving the Union Army first as a private, then as a corporal and eventually as a sergeant. After the war was over he moved to Augusta WI, and in 1867, became the first attorney there. He also served as Justice of the Peace for Augusta and Bridge Creek. He passed away in Waukesha in 1909 and is buried in Augusta.

He was my great, great grandfather. My mother had given me the only picture she had of him and probably the only one which exists. It was small and lost in a house fire but I had scanned it and that is what I've submitted here. David Stiglitz
