Laura Kristina (Minsaas) Adams

By: Audrey Edith Albaugh, with some information by Sharon, Mrs. Clifford Adams.

Laura Kristina Adams Minsaas was born November 18, 1915 at Greenwood, WI., Beaver Township. She left home after finishing the eighth grade when she was 13-14 years old. She worked on farms around the Christie, WI area, helping with cooking and cleaning. Then, she drove the milk truck route from Blackriver Falls to Neillsville. Later one, she returned to working on a farm, this time for the Meeks family.

In 1936, when she was 21 years old, she and Crivel Chadwick had a daughter, Audrey Edith (Minaas) Chadwick, though never married.

In 1939, she met Jason Dewey Bostwick and they married Feb. 27. September 15th of that year, Laura's second daughter, Pauline, was born.

In the early 1940's, they worked on threshing crews and she cooked for many of the farm families in the Eastern Dakota area. They spent some time in Oriska, Sanborn, Tower City (where they even rented a small house and Audrey began first grade).

Around 1944, Laura met Clifford Adams, then divorced Jason Bostwick. Adams was working for a roofing crew out of Fargo, at the time. He talked her into moving to Fargo, ND. After her divorce from Jason, Pauline was sent to Greenwood, WI (grandma Minsaas went to North Dakota and took her back to WI). Audrey, who stayed near Laura and Clifford was boarded out to the Al Jepson family in Fargo where she attended the Roosevelt School.

Clifford Adams and Laura were married Nov. 4, 1944, at the First Congregational Church in Moorhead, MN. They rented a house 812 2nd Ave. North. Both daughters moved in with them and attended the Woodrow Wilson School.

Laura worked the Blackstone Cafe in Fargo for a long time and at the Grand Recreation Restaurant as well.

On April 22, 1945; Clifford Walter Adams, Jr. was born and Dec.5, 1947, Shelby Jean arrived.

They bought their first home June 1, 1948 at 523, 20th St. North in Moorhead, MN, where Clifford Adams died of a sudden heart attack.

May 3, 1973, Laura bought the house on the opposite side of the street, 601,20th Ave. North where she resided until poor health forced her into the Elim Nursing home in 1988. She died there March 26, 1994, at 6:20 a.m. of Septicemia (bacteria of the blood, due to a hidden infection). She also had dementia (which is a slow loss of one's mind), and was insulin dependent for her diabetic condition.
