William & Bertha (Soderberg) Glasshof

Bertha E. (Soderberg) & William Glasshof  (ca. 1907)

This photo came to us from a collection once owned by Shirley Asselin of Racine, WI.  Bertha was one of ten children born August and Bertha (Shuett) Soderberg.  She was Feb. 5, 1888 toward the end of winter, and was named for her mother.  She married William (b. 1878), the son of Peter & Margaretha (Thiessen) Glasshof of Thorp, WI, about 1907.  Sadly, the Swedish born, August Soderberg died of stomach cancer the year before this wedding took place and was unable to give the bride away.   Having been born Jan. 31, 1854, he was just 51 years old.  Bertha Soderberg (b. July 11, 1860), who was born in Germany, died Nov. 16, 1942.  Both of them are buried in the East Thorp Village cemetery.

William Glasshof died Feb. 15, 1951 and was buried in the East Thorp Village Cemetery in Thorp, WI.  After Bertha died, in Hennepin Co., MN June 5, 1959, she was laid to rest beside him.
