Crane, Dr. Leonard H. (6 FEB 1875)


L. H. Crane was born at Weyauwega, Wisconsin Feb. 6, 1879 attending public and high school there.
On Feb. 26, 1900 he married Elsie Rideout. After graduating in June 1903 from the Milwaukee Medical College, he came to Dorchester to establish a practice. His office was located in a small building on Main Street (where the Co-op scale is presently located.)


Dr. Crane served as Village President, member of the school board and managed a local baseball team. (Some of the player were Dick Helms, Fred Dorenberg, Art Herman and Fred Distelhorst.)


The first four babies delivered by Dr. Crane were: Edith Moecker, Elmer Habeck and the Heuser twins, Arnold and Ernest.


Dr. Crane left Dorchester in 1925, moving to Hortonville, Wis. He passed away in 1946 and Mrs. Crane died in 1948. Three children born to them were Francis in 1900, Lenore in 1902 and Harold in 1903. Harold joined the staff at the Dorchester State Bank in 1922 later moving to Manawa, Wis. to work for the First National Bank and Farmer's State Bank and presently serves the city of Manawa as city clerk, treasurer and assessor.
