Silsby, Joseph (9 JUL 1836 - 5 APR 1915)

Joseph Silsby died Monday afternoon after a very brief illness. He was born in Barrington, N.Y., on July 9, 1836, and was united in marriage to Marilla Mason in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, on Feb. 20, 1868. They came to Clark County about 1877 and for many years Mrs. Silsby was engaged in the lumbering business in the employ of Mr. Hewett. He engaged in the hotel business at Hewettville for some years and later he and his family came to Neillsville to reside and which was his home ever since. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Silsby—Ellis Ward Silsby and Mrs. A.C. Luddington—the former having died a number of years ago. Deceased is survived by two sisters and one brother—Mrs. Hubbard of North Dakota, Mrs. Davis of South Dakota and James Silsby of California.

Mr. Silsby was a man of retiring disposition, but faithful and energetic to a high degree. He was conscientious in all his undertakings and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Mrs. Luddington arrived here yesterday from Ishpheming, Mich., for the funeral.
