Schoen, Edward Willard (26 September 1923 - 19 November 2012)

Edward W. Schoen, 89, of Neillsville, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at the Neillsville Care and Rehab Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Gesche Funeral Home Friday, Nov. 23, before the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed for Masses for Edward.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Edward’s family with funeral arrangements.

Edward W. Schoen, 89, of Neillsville died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Ministry home Care Hospice.

Edward Willard Schoen was born Sept. 26, 1923, in the Township of Levis to Henry B. and Minnie (Utecht) Schoen. He was united in marriage to Grace Winter Nov. 22, 1951. In his early years he worked at a cranberry marsh and then farmed in the Town of Levis until he retired in 1979. Ed served as Town of Levis supervisor for 12 years and then 12 years as the Town Chairman. Ed also was the director of the Farmers Union Co-op for nine years. Ed enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting and wintering in Texas with many friends.

Ed is survived by his wife, Grace; six children, Linda (Gary) Miller, Edward (Risè) Schoen, Patricia (Tom) Drangstveit, Connie (Wayne) Opelt, all of Neillsville, Larry (Kris) Schoen of Fall Creek and Kevin (Sheena) Schoen of Neillsville; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with the birth of another grandchild and great-grandchild anticipated. Ed is further survived by sisters, Eleanor Neville of Eau Claire and Lou Hainz of Neillsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Henry and John; two sisters, Catherine and Betty; and grandchildren Randy and Bethany.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville with Rev. Varkey V. Joseph the celebrant. Music was provided by Ronald Resong, organist, and St. Mary’s Choir. Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, before the service at the church.

Serving as casketbearers for Ed were Matthew Miller, John Schoen, Robert Schoen, Brandon Bertz, Ethan Schoen and Jeffrey Opelt. Honorary casketbearers were Dan and Austin Schoen.
