In 1955, Lloyd joined the Navy serving active duty aboard the USS Siboney and NAF out of Annapolis, MD until 1958. He later joined the Naval Reserves serving VR51 NAS out of Glenview, Ill., until 1989, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 34 years of service.

Lloyd was the mayor of Colby from 1970 to 1985 and co-owned and managed (along with his father Fred) Scidmore Fur Farm in Colby until the early 1980's.

He married Alice Sedlack in Colby, January 1956. They later divorced. He married Linda Anderson of Pittsboro, Ind., August 1991.

Lloyd loved the Navy and flying. He accumulated over 5,000 flight hours in naval aircraft most notably the DC-4 ,DC-6 and DC-9. He also flew with the Naval Unitas Goodwill Ambassadors to South America in the early 1980's. He used that experience to launch a civilian career as a professional flight engineer and had flown DC-8, DC-10, Boeing 727's and Lockheed L 1011's for American Trans Air, retiring after 17 years.

Lloyd enjoyed travel, playing cards, watching NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers. He loved boating in southwest Florida where he lived, was fun loving, and very patriotic.
