DeYoung, Elsie and Henry (19 Jan 1911-22 Jan 1961)

The parents of Mrs. Bernard Davel and former residents of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. Henry DeYoung were honored with a golden anniversary celebration Sunday, January 22 at New London.

About 400 persons attended the open house reception given at the American Legion Club House from 4 until 8 o’clock. A buffet supper was served. The couple were presented with a purse of money and many gifts. All of their children were present.

The former Elsie Clametson was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clemerson at Cady and she moved with her parents to Loyal as a young girl and attended the schools here. Mr. DeYoung was born in Andyk, Holland and came to the United States when he was nine years old with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johannas DeYoung. The couple were married by Rev. Kildow at Loyal on January 19, 1911 and lived here until 1919 when they moved to New London. Attendants at their wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Nelson DeYoung of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Mrs. Esther Stabnow of Greenwood and Milton Clemetson, who is deceased. None of the attandents were present for the celebration.

Mrs. DeYoung is a member of the Loyal Royal Neighbors, Hope Camp No. 819 and received a gold pin from them in May in recognition of being a member for fifty years. She is also a member of the Community Hospital Auxiliary at New London. Mr. DeYoung received a pin in recognition of 34 years of servive at the Edison Wood Products Corporation at his retirement twelve years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. DeYoung have five daughters. They are Mrs. Marie Paulson and Mrs. Victor Diestler of New London, Mrs. Bernard Davel, Loyal, Mrs. Alice Beckert of Kildeer, North Dakota, and Mrs. Willard Wied of Clintonville. They also have twenty thee grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
