Humbird (9 May 1966)

 

A new book has been given the Humbird Public Library: "The Joy of Living" by Helen Hayes. It was given in memory of Winifred Trader by Clarence and Jean Collins and Lottie Flynn.

 

The Poppy report has been handed in and the ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary are very appreciative of the support of the public and say "Thank You" to the girls who helped. There were 21 who joined the Dollar Club, namely: Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lund, Phillip Fitzmaurice, Ed Mashin, William Aebersold, Roy Johnson, Mmes. Dewey Lang, Jim Trachsel, William Theiler, Sr., Fred Trachsel, Archie Kirby, Nina Stuve, Azure Osborne, Fred Rupnow, Henry Laffe, Ralph Rollman, Warren Van Kirk, Harry Jennings, Cullen Dignin, Art Laffe, Raymond Stuve, and Miss Hattie Stuve.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Len Laffe, formerly of Taylor, have moved into their re-modeled home here, although it is not quite finished.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Al Raymond of Fairchild have bought the house owned by Mrs. Jerry Gust and will soon move here.  Mrs. Raymond is quite well-known and we welcome her back to her old home town.

 

The combined Bible school of about 52 children gave a part of the morning worship service in St. John’s Church Sunday morning.  Don Arnt of Wisconsin Rapids was the program speaker.

 

Mrs. Alton Dunn and daughters of Minneapolis were guests last weekend at the home of Miss Lucille and Mrs. Mae Dunn.

 

Mrs. Pearl Prock of Neillsville was here Monday and again Wednesday to see her mother, Mrs. Christine Hanson. Mrs. Dewey Walker of rural Fairchild called there Thursday.

 

Mrs. Gaylord Stanley and children of Beresford, S. D., were dinner and afternoon guests Saturday of Mrs. Emma Gerber.

 

Several from here attended the wedding Saturday morning in St. Joseph’s Church in Fairview of Annette Arnold and DeWitt Van Kirk. A reception was held in the afternoon in the American Legion Hall and was well attended.  The young people will make their home on the farm in rural Humbird.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Charley Bollom of Neillsville and Mrs. Raymond Fradette of Eau Claire visited Sunday afternoon at the Chester Baily home.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Claire Enerson and Mary Jo of North Branch were supper guests Sunday at the Arnold Matti home.

 

Dennis Fitzmaurice spent the weekend at home from his work in Belvidere, Ill., and also called on his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice.

 

Mrs. mary Iffland entertained at dinner Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Frank Haag and Leonard of Melrose, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Haag and Scott, La Crosse, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Laffe, Sherry and Dawn, of Montezuma, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Len Laffe and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Art Christen spent Wednesday evening at the Frank Jarolimek home.

 

Judy Boettcher spent the weekend with Mrs. Emma Gerber.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schwallen of Rice Lake were overnight guests Sunday of Mrs. Marie Hefty.

 

Mrs. Mary Reider and Mrs. Violet Martindale of Rockford, Ill., were dinner guests Monday of Mr. and Mrs. John Greub.

 

Mrs. Laura Baumgartner of Neillsville spent a day or so in her home here from her work in the Children’s home.

 

Albert Mazola brought his grandmother Mrs. Christine Hanson, last Saturday after spending about two weeks at the Mazola home in Milwaukee.  Tuesday Everett Hanson of Hartford was an overnight guest of Mrs. Hanson.
