Barton, John (5 August 1889 - 15 February 1966)

 

Word has been received in Neillsville of the death of a former resident, John Barton, 76, of Jamestown, N. D., who died February 15 in the Northern Pacific Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., which he entered January 5.

 

Mr. Barton was born August 5, 1889, in Neillsville, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anton Barton, long time residents of this community.  He attended Neillsville schools and for two years was employed at the Neillsville Municipal plant before leaving for Montana in 1908.  In 1910 he went to Jamestown as fireman on the Northern Pacific Railroad and in 1917 was promoted to engineer.  He retired August 1, 1958.

 

Mr. Barton was married August 17, 1915, in Jamestown to the former Lenore Wilmart.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. James Catholic Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotives and Engineers.

 

Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Neil Peterson of Sutton, N. D., Mrs. Kenneth Manning of Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Daniel Barrett of Vancouver, Wash.; two sons, Harold of Grayland, Wash., and Morris of Devils Lake, N. D.; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Matie DeLion of Spokane, Wash., and a brother, De4vere Barton of Redondo Beach, Calif.

 

Mr. Barton was a cousin of Arthur Barton and Mrs. Rose Schiller of Neillsville.
