            A FORMER GREENWOOD RESIDENT DIES

In a letter from Miss Ethel Newton of Woodburn, Ore., written to Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Hendren she states that her mother died Feb. 15, 1916. The obituary is a clipping from their home paper: Mrs. Francelia Newton was born in Orben, Fond du Lac County, Wis., in 1859. When a little girl she moved with her parents to Brown County, and a few years later to Clark County, Wis. On Oct. 27, 1881, she was married to Oliver D. Newton in Neillsville, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Newton move to Oregon in 1903, arriving in Oswego, June 13. The following April they moved to Woodburn, making this their home.

To them were born two children, Caroline Lillian, who preceded her mother five years ago next April, and Gertrude Ethel, who, with her father and little nephew, Fenton Newton, still survive. She also leaves one brother and five sisters to mourn her demise.

Mrs. Newton was a noble Christian, a kind and loving wife, mother and sister, always doing what she could for those who needed her.

Shed died Feb. 15, 1916 at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. K. Gow, to whom she was ministering when stricken with apoplexy, from which she never recovered, the end coming within an hour .

Surnames: NEWTON, BACON, ROBINSON, DECKER

I'm looking for the family of Calvin & Moses NEWTON, probably born in Mass. Calvin born 1795 married Hannah BACON , and Moses 1797 (about); They lived in Guilford ,Chenango Co. NY ,early 1800's ,and later moved to Tioga Co. PA, by 1860 they were in Wisconsin. Children were: Charlotte born 1834 married Benjamin Decker; Rhoda 1837 Married to Joel Robinson; Chauncy ca 1839; Sarah 1841; Lydia ca 1843; Ebenezer 1846; Calvin Jr. ca 1848.  I don't know who their parents were and only have a little on Charlotte & Rhoda. Would like to find more family.

Surnames: Newton, Breed, Bacon, Van Den Bosch, Grant, Hall

My grandmother was a Newton and my g.g.grandmother on my Bush side was Lydia G. Bacon 1871-1949 wife of Leroy W. Bush from Chenango Co. NY. The Bacons date back a long time in that town. I have alot of Newton info but not alot of time. Our Newton's were one of the first settlers of a small town in NY. called Pharsallia which was first called Stonnington because they came from Stonnington, Conn. Anyway, I would love to hear from you and as soon as I have more time I will give you all the info I have.

Yours truly, Steve Bush       please email me stevenbush@comcast.net
