Cullen, Frank, Sr. (1919 - 1982)


Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 27, at Champion and Sons Funeral Home, Osage, Iowa, for Frank Cullen, Sr., 62, of 122 S. Main St., Greenwood, Clark County.

Mr. Cullen died at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been admitted March 14. Death was due to a lingering illness.

Officiating at the service was Rev. Joseph Nesheim of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell, Iowa.

Frank Cullen was born on Dec. 14, 1919, at Mitchell, Iowa, and attended public schools there. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in the 26th Construction Battalion at Guadalcanal. He later became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and worked for 26 years in construction, retiring in 1977. He then moved to Greenwood to be near his sons.

He was married to Mary Morrison on Dec. 31, 1940, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Osage, American Legion Post No. 238 of Greenwood and the VGW Post No. 7924 of Kansasville.

Surviving him are his wife, Mary two sons, Vincent of Granton and Frank of Dorchester one sister, Mrs. Ed (Anna) Klecka of Downers Grove, Ill. one brother, William of Lucerne, Cal. and nine grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents a step-father and a brother, Joseph.

Champion Funeral Home in Osage, Iowa, and Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, handled arrangements.
