Jones, Millie V. (1871 - 1872)

Died, in the town of Pine Valley, Clark County, March 2, 1872, Millie V., daughter of J. B. and L. E. Jones, aged 1 year, 2 months and 3 days.

In the midst of life we are in death. Once more has the cruel hand of death reached forth and snatched from the little group the darling infant babe. Oh, death, bitter indeed, is the pang which thy dreaded visit brings to the hearts that doted on thy victim. The babe of their household, who but a few short days ago, gladdened their hearts with its childish, merry sports, now lies still in death. Yes, Millie has passed away, as does the last fading glimmer of a summer eve. Fold the little dimpled hands that have so oft been pressed to that fond mother s lips fold them gently o'er the pulseless heart. Smooth the delicate locks of golden hair carefully o'er that small, clammy brow. Her little form is wrapped in the cold arms of death and her earthly career, although so short, has ended. God hath seen fit to pluck the delicate flower ere this world s storms overtake it. Earth s tempests she will never know. Pure, innocent, free from all fuile she has returned to God who gave.

Farewell, Millie we shall never
Clasp thy childlike form again
Go, he hath called, and we must sever
Till we meet on Heaven s bright plain.
