Wilczek, Frank J. (1909 - 2001)


Frank J. Wilczek, 91, Thorp, town of Withee, Clark County, died on Thursday, May 24, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 29, at St. Bernard's St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Thorp. The Rev. John Puerner officiated. Burial was in old St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Roger, Ronald, Chad, Scot, and Jeff Wilczek, David and Jim Lauer, Bobby Wilczek, and Steven Paske.


Frank Joseph Wilczek was born on Sept. 11, 1909, in Warsaw, Poland, to Steven and Josephine Wilczek. At the age of 3, he and his family moved to America. He attended Jackson School in the town of Worden. He married Rose Powszukiewicz on Aug. 10, 1938, in Thorp. They farmed in the area for many years. They retired and moved to Thorp in 1979. He was a member of St. Bernard's-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.


Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Rose Wilczek, Thorp his children, Anthony (Shirley) Wilczek, Chippewa Falls, Jerome (Theresa) Wilczek, Marshfield, Theresa (Ken) Salvack, Jackson, Joseph (Betty) Wilczek, Greenwood, Mary (Melvin) Lauer, Mokena, Ill., Francis (Chris) Wilczek, Lublin, Rose Marie Paske, Aurora, Colo., Henry Wilczek, Great Falls, Mont., Patrick (Elsie) Wilczek, San Antonio, Texas, William (Jane) Wilczek, Thorp, Virginia (John) Conzemius, Burnsville, Minn., and James Wilczek, Stetsonville 22 grandchildren seven great-grandchildren two step-great-grandchildren and one sister, Sophie (Ed) Koltis, Thorp.


He was preceded in death by his parents one sister, Mary Karpinski and one grandson, Joseph Michael Wilczek.


Thorp Funeral Home, Thorp, assisted the family with arrangements.
