Olson, Mona (1905 - 1990)


Mona B. Olson, 85, of Route 5, Box 558, Chippewa Falls, died Thursday, June 14, 1990, at her home.


She was born Jan. 10, 1905, in Viroqua to Margaret (nee Wallace) and Lars M. Langhus. She attended school in Asbury, graduating from Viroqua High School in 1921. She attended Vernon County Normal School and taught school at Unseth Rural School in Westby. She then attended St. Olaf College and La Crosse State Normal School and taught school in Tripoli and Wilmot.


Mona married Lionel A. Olson on Nov. 8, 1928, in Madison. They resided in several Wisconsin cities until moving to Chippewa Falls in 1947, where she had since resided.


She graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire in 1942, and then taught at Fairchild High School and for 16 years at Greenwood High school, until retiring in 1970.


She was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Retired Teachers Association and the Chippewa Falls Women s Club.


Survivors include one son, Lionel (Louise) Olson Jr. of Madison one sister, Lela (Wayne) Larson of Chippewa Falls three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband on May 2, 1974 her parents and one grandson.


A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 1990, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. John Ericksen of Central Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
