A. E. MESSER


A.E. (Brownie) Messer, 79, passed away at his home at 300 W. Mill St., Spencer, on Monday, May 22, 1978 at 6:45 a.m. Funeral services were held on May 24, 1978 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rux Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. J. J. Burggraf officiating. Burial was in the West Spencer Cemetery. Rux Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Messer was born May 17, 1899 in Phillips, Wis. He received his education in the Unity Schools. He married the former Agnes Sauter in St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester on June 17, 1930. The resided for seven years in Unity, Clark County and then moved to Spencer in 1937, where he was a rural mail carrier for 47 years, retiring in 1965. He was a Veteran of WWI, a member of Spencer American Legion and was a charter member of the Spencer Lions Club. He belonged to the Rural Letter Carriers Association.


Surviving besides his wife, Agnes, are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann) Endreas, Spencer and Mrs. Herbert (Audrey) Meyer, Marshfield one son, Ernest Messer, Beloit, Wis. 15 grandchildren one brother, Ansel Messer, Unity and three sisters, Mrs. Myra Evenson, Unity Mrs. Milion (Catherine) Evers, Mercer, Wis. and Mrs. Tom (Gladys) Loughead, Unity. One brother and two grandchildren preceded him in death.


The organist was miss Stephanie Sautner, and the singer were Mrs. Sue Sautner and Mrs. Pat Stephens. The pallbearers were all grandsons Steven and Mike Endreas, Jef and Jerry Messer, James, Kenneth and Robert Meyer. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Parrette, George Schwantes, Earl Cramer, Oscar Decker, Ed Huber, and Ted Neilein. DuWayne Tremmel did the reading and eulogy.
