MABEL BRECHT


Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 1978 at St. Anthony's Church, Loyal, for Mrs. Herman (Mabel) Brecht, 59, Spokeville, Clark County, who died at her home at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, March 8, 1978, following a lingering illness.


Father Chester Osowski officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery. Rinka Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mabel (Vogel) Brecht was born on May 15, 1919 in Loyal, Wis. to Mathew and Sadie Vogel. She received her education in the Loyal schools, graduating from Loyal High School. She married Herman (Bud) Brecht on April 4, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa. They owned and operated Brecht's Tavern in the Town of Loyal for about 12 years. Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1972. She then purchased the Spokeville Store and operated it until her death. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church.


Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Sadie Vogel, Loyal three sons, Michael, Spencer Wayne, Loyal and Patrick, Spencer one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Carol) Vick, Manhatten, Mont. three sisters, Mrs. Peter (Velma) Brecht, Loyal Mrs. Paul (Shirley) Lockhardt, Owen and Mrs. Warren (Joan) Drew, Morgan City, La. one brother, Halbert Vogel, Milwaukee and seven grandchildren.


She was also predeceased by her father, Matt Vogel.


Pallbearers were Clayton Englebretson, Gerald Lucht, Jim Johnson, Jim Plaskey, George Fischer and David Fricke.
