Schmitz, Catherine (1892 - 1965)


GREENWOOD--Mrs. Catherine Schmitz, 73, Greenwood, Clark County, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1965, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where she had been admitted on Oct. 8.


Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Edward F. Hartung will officiate, and burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery.


The body will repose at the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood from Tuesday afternoon until time of services. A general rosary service will be conducted there at 8 p.m. Tuesday, followed by St. Ann's Society rosary.


The former Catherine Lindner was born Feb. 13, 1892, at Millston, and received her education there. In 1910 she came to Greenwood and was married here Oct. 28, 1913, to Joseph Schmitz.


Mrs. Schmitz was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Society, and the Home Interest Homemaker's Club.


Survivors include her husband five daughters, Mrs. Jack (Cecilia) Bertz, Loyal; Mrs. Joseph (Josephine) Herr, Mrs. Catherine Hefner, Mrs. Donald (Mary Ann) Kocher and Mrs. Burnell (Carol Yaeger, a son, Hubert Schmitz, and five brothers, Matt, John, Casper, Anton and Gerhard Lindner, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Bushman and Mrs. Gerald (Anna) Denk, all of Greenwood; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


A son, a brother and a sister preceded her in death.
