MEMORIAL IS HELD FOR DR. SCHOFIELD
MASONIC LODGE CONDUCTS SPECIAL SERVICES AT GREENWOOD MAY 30
Greenwood--Masonic funeral services in memory of Dr. Hugh Schofield and interment of his ashes in the family lot took place in the Greenwood Cemetery Memorial Day morning. The ceremonies were held by the Masonic Lodge No. 249 of Greenwood, with A. L. Devos in charge.
Hugh Robert Schofield, son of Almeria and Robert Schofield, was born in Weston Rapids, north of Neillsville, Clark County, Feb. 21, 1875, and for many years carried on an extensive logging business in Greenwood and Clark County. He was a student at Ripon College from 1891 to 1893 and attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison for two years.
After receiving his medical degree from Hahneman Medical College in Chicago in 1901, he spent several months in traveling in Europe and upon his return home began a practice in Perkinstown, later going to Medford, where he remained until he came to Greenwood and carried on his practice in his home town.
On Aug. 25, 1903, he married Miss Emma Kleohn, Minneapolis. They lived here in the Schofield family home.
In 1912 the family moved to Chicago, where after one year's internship in Hahneman Hospital, he was dispensary chief for eight years.
From then until his retirement last October, he engaged in private practice with offices in Chicago. He frequently visited friends in Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister, Gratia S. Young.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Roberta S. Wood, Chicago, and one sister, Mrs. Allie M. Pierrelee, Beverly Hills, Calif., and whom he was spending the winter when he was stricken Jan. 11, 1947. Funeral services and cremation took place in Los Angeles.
The memorial rites here were attended by his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wood, Chicago, and by many friends. Among those from away were Mrs. A. L. Armstrong and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Armstrong, Abbotsford Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Gullord, Marshfield Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Currie, Elcho Dr. and Mrs. Edward Gullord, Minneapolis and Mr. and Mrs. Clair Hunt and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hunt, La Crosse.
