FORMER RESIDENT PASSES AWAY


Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Hester Howden, an early resident of Greenwood, Clark County.


She passed away at the home of her daughter at Yokima, Wash., April 18, 1935, having reached the age of 84 years.


Hester Cummins was born in New York in 1851. On Oct. 3, 1870, she was married to Samuel Howden. They lived on a homestead one and one-half miles south and one-half mile west of Greenwood, known as the O. J. Howard farm, for many years. Ten children were born to this union. Her husband and three sons preceded her in death.


She leaves to mourn her loss, three sons, James of Coulee Dam, George of Yakima, Harry of Seattle four daughters, Mrs. Hattie Morris of Yakima, at whose home she passed away, Mrs. Lottie Flick of Seattle, Mrs. Bird Flick and Mrs. Nell Torfin of Tacoma. She is also survived by three sisters, two brothers, thirty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.


They sold their farm near Greenwood many years ago, leaving for the west to live near their children.
