GENEVA BERRETT  (1909-1987)


A private graveside service will be held Thursday morning, June 18, at the Greenwood City Cemetery, for Mrs. Verland (Geneva P.) Berrett, 77, of Rt. 1, Greenwood, Clark County, who passed away following a lingering illness on Monday, June 15, 1987. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. There will be no visitation. Gesche Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Rev. Dennis Thomas and Rev. Warren Worden will conduct a public memorial service Thursday, 2 p.m., at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Owen. Gail Worden will be vocalist.


The former Geneva Davis was born in the Town of Warner, Clark County, on Oct. 3, 1909, to Calvin and Lottie (Berg) Davis. She was a student at La Tart School, in the Town of Beaver, and graduated from Greenwood High School. After attending Teachers Training School in Neillsville, she taught in area rural schools and the School District of Greenwood. Her teaching career spanned over 50 years.


On Sept. 27, 1927, she was married to Verland L. Berrett at Winona, Minn. He survives. Other survivors include two children, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Worden, Greenwood, and James Berrett of Marblehead, Mass. a brother, Orville Davis, Marshfield seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


She was predeceased by her parents and a son, Duane.
