Askend, Melva A. (1905 - 1971)

 


GREENWOOD
--Miss Melva Alvina Asken, 65, Greenwood, Clark County, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 6, 1971 at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, following an illness of two years.


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church here, with the Rev. David Wenger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Visitations may be made at the Hill Funeral Home beginning Friday afternoon, and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.


Miss Askend was born Dec. 14, 1905, in Cobb, Wis., and was never married. She came from Southern Wisconsin in November, 1918 with her parents, and spent most of her life in Greenwood. She had been employed as a telephone switchboard operator for many years in Greenwood.


She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church here and the American Lutheran Church Women.


Survivors include nine cousins, three of who are Mrs. Louis Edwards, Loyal Donald Askend, Neillsville and Mrs. May Little, Eau Claire.


She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Clayton and Alvin Askend.
