George Schlagenhaft, 70, died Saturday, Apr. 7, 1962 in the Veteran’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Norbert E. King officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The body reposed at the Myre Funeral Home where a general rosary services was said Monday evening.

Pallbearers were all nephews: John, Eugene, Earl, Cyril, Bernard and Richard Schlagenhaft.

Graveside rites were conducted by the American Legion Post 175 with Oscar Fricke as squad commander. Color bearers were George Bentzler and Henry Boe , and the flag was presented by Edd Dobbe and Percy Voight. The firing squad consisted of Dale Kauggman, Gene Artz, Duane Newman, Wilbur Kehrberg, Lloyd Zimmerman and Dan Wolter. Taps was played by Lamont Johnston.

Mr. Schlagenhaft was born 13, 1891 in Marathon County. He received his education in Marshfield and lived there until 1930, when he moved to Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.). He was a stone mason by trade, retiring a number of years ago. He was married to the former Theresa Mahlich on June 21, 1921 in Rozellville.

Surviving is his wife, three sons, George Jr., Marshfield and Anthony and Robert, both of Loyal; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. John (Rose) Deckert, Wis. Dells, and Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Fischer, Milwaukee, and two brothers, August and Herman Schlagenhaft of Marshfield.

Relatives and friends attending from out of town were Mrs. Eddie Brock and family, Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. William Schlagenhaft, Beloit; Mrs. Charles Jackson, Berwyn, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Schlagenhaft, Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Loscher, Fern Schlagenhaft, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. John Deckert, Wis. Dells; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roggendauer, Walter Merkel, Mrs. Francis Bauman, George Merkel, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Foles, Alex Weigel, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Weigel, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Weigel, John Weigel, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Werner, Mrs. Gwendolyn Weigel, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stenger, Mrs. Mike Stenger, Ben Merkel, Mrs. Albert Brock, Mrs. Leona Blackwood, Walter Schneider, Mr. and Mrs. August Schlagenhaft, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schlagenhaft and family, Mrs. Lil Knicker, all of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. William Zastrow, Riplinger; John Schlagenhaft, Hewitt; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jackman, Minneapolis, Minn.
