Schmidt, Arlene Rose (Marriage - 8 July 1967)

Nuptial vows were exchanged at 12 noon in a double ring ceremony in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville uniting in marriage Miss Arlene Rose Schmidt of Wisconsin Rapids, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schmidt of Rt. 1 Neillsville, and Gilbert James Layton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Layton of Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. George Nelson performed the ceremony.

The bride chose a floor-length gown of imported rayon organza with a redingote effect, made of scalloped Chantilly lace. The crescent waistline and oval neckline were encircled with pearls. The back of the gown was enhanced with a long lace train. Her fingertip veil, with hand-rolled edge, fell from a crown of simulated pearl orange blossoms. She carried a crescent arrangement of white bridal roses, entwined with ivy.

Her attendants were Miss Mary Schmidt of Oshkosh as maid-of-honor; Miss Carolyn Schmidt of Neillsville, and the misses Linda and Sally Layton of Wisconsin Rapids, bridesmaids. Lorie Schmidt, sister of the bride, was flower girl. They were seen in mint green sheath-style dresses of floor length, styled with Watteau back panels of crepe and empire waistlines. They wore green face veils attached to mint green floral headpieces, and carried cascade bouquets of pink and white carnations. The flower girl wore a white lace over slipper satin floor-length gown, with a white face veil attached to a white floral headpiece. She carried a miniature cascade bouquet of pink and white carnations.

Robert Hofschild of Rudolph was bestman. Groomsmen were Ralph Schmidt of Neillsville, Gordy Smith of Oshkosh and Richard Layton of Wisconsin Rapids. Ushers were Richard Schmidt of Neillsville and Paul Layton of Wisconsin Rapids.

Nuptial music was played by Mrs. Glenn Short, accompanied by the girls’ choir of the church.

The bride is a 1966 graduate of Neillsville High School and has been employed in a department store in Wisconsin Rapids. The groom is a 1964 graduate of the Vocational, Technical and Adult Educational School there. He is employed as a draftsman for the state highway commission in Wisconsin Rapids.

Mr. and Mrs. Layton will make their home at 510 7th Ave. South, Wisconsin Rapids, after returning from a wedding trip.
