Uhlig, Korliss C. (Schoelzel) (1949? - March 4, 2012)

Korliss C. Uhlig, age 63, of Marshfield, formerly of Colby, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at her residence in the Town of Spencer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the First United Church of Christ in Colby. Reverend Bill Wineke will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Colby and again Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at the Colby Memorial Cemetery, Colby.

Korliss was the youngest of the 21 Schoelzel children born to Rudolph and Olivia (Gutenberger) Schoelzel. She attended Cloverdale Grade School, graduated from the Colby High School, and  also graduated from Wausau Tech.

On May 21, 1971, Korliss married John Uhlig at the First United Church of Christ in Colby.

She valued the love of her family and treasured her close bonds with them. Her family was a source of her strength during her final months of her battle with cancer. Raising her own children was one of her proudest accomplishments. She spent her spare time doing the things she enjoyed, cooking, reading, cross-country skiing, going for long walks, shopping and family gatherings.

She adored her pets and was a loyal Brewers fan. She lost her loving husband, John, tragically in 1998. Korliss was an active member at the United Church of Christ of Colby where she taught Sunday school, catechism, sang in the choir, played organ and read scripture and on occasion led services.

She worked at the Redwood Supper Club, the Colby Schools and most recently at the Marshfield Clinic in the ambulatory department as a scheduler. She spent her recent years living near Marshfield with her special friend Harold "Joe" Plummer and her beloved cats, Blacky and Tiger. She will be deeply missed by Joe, her children, and all those whose lives she touched, including brothers, sisters, a multitude of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends and co-workers.

Korliss is survived by her daughter, Michelle Uhlig of Milwaukee; her son, Matthew (Jennifer) Uhlig of Phoenix, AZ; special friend, Harold "Joe" Plummer of Marshfield; and her two cats, Blacky and Tiger. She is further survived by brothers, Jerry (Joan), Ronnie, Darnell (Janice), Glen (Ramona), Jim (Bonnie) Schoelzel; sisters, Darlene Watchendonk, Emerita Phillips, Sandy (Jim) Hudak, Connie (Duane) Stine.

Korliss is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Uhlig; two daughters; her siblings, Rudy, DuWayne, Lyle, Arlyn, Dennis, Albert, Doris, Beatrice, Ione and Audris.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Hocking and the staff of the oncology department for their care and kindness, the support of her co-workers, and to hospice and the House of the Dove for their gentle assistance.

The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
