Strey, Mr./Mrs.Robert (Gold -28 Oct 1909)

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strey of Loyal celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, on Saturday.

Anna Thomas and Robert Strey were married at the long home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Thomas, in the town of Washburn, Clark County, October 28, 1909.

The Rev. J. Reiff officiated at the original ceremony.  The bridesmaid, Miss Matilda Strey, a sister of Mr. Strey, is living in Milwaukee but was unable to attend the Golden Wedding celebration.

The celebration began with a noon time dinner in the church they have attended all of their married lives.  The original building has been replaced with a beautiful modern building but still retains the name of Zion Lutheran Church.  At 1:30 p.m., the Rev. L.E. Schreiber, present pastor, gave a short appropriate sermon with Mr. and Mrs. Strey occupying a place of honor at the front of the church.  Open house was then held at the church from 2 p.m. to 5p.m. with cake and coffee being served.  Many beautiful gifts and cards were received.

Mrs. Strey was born in Germany September 27, 1887.  She came with her parents to America when but a baby.  They settled in Indiana.  When she was 11 years old they came to Clark County and settled on a farm where she lived until her marriage.

Mr. Strey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Strey, was born in the town of Grant, May 16, 1881 and lived there till his marriage.  After their marriage they moved to a farm in the tow of York where they lived for forty years.  In 1949 they moved into the city of Loyal where they have since resided.  Until their retirement, their life was lived on farms.

They are the parents of eleven children, Mrs. George (Elsie) Fricke, Milwaukee; Ernest Strey, Spencer; Mrs. Manual (Helen) Domine, Loyal; Mrs. Marvin (Hazel) Seeman, Wilson; (Mrs. Domine and Mrs. Seeman are twins); Earleen Strey, Augusta; Raymond and Victor Strey, Granton; Mrs. Charles (LaVern) Schneider, Milwaukee; Mrs. Robert (Norma) Potter, Spencer; and Celen Strey and Robert Strey, Milwaukee.  All of the children were present for the celebration and also most of the members of the families of the children.

Guests came from Viloa, Pence, Greenwood, Nekoosa, Wilson, Spencer, Loyal, Granton, Milwaukee, Augusta, Withee, Abbotsford, Kewaskun, Neillsville, Wis.; La Salle, Ind., and Waukegan, Ill., to attend the Golden Wedding celebration.
