Carstensen, Vila (21 April 1891 - 9 June 1965)

 

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral home for Mrs. Fred (Vila) Carstensen, 74, of Rt. 2, Granton, who died June 9 in Neillsville.  The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ at Neillsville officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Carstensen, the former Vila Mack, was born April 21, 1891, in Germany.  Her parents were the late August and Marie (Kassner) Mack.  She came to the United States with her parents when she was three years of age. The family first settled in Brillion, where Mrs. Carstensen received her education and worked.

 

She was married there April 17, 1921, to the late Fred Carstensen, who died January 25, 1965.  Mr. and Mrs. Carstensen came to Clark County, locating on a farm in the Town of Washburn, which had been her home since 1921.

 

She is survived by three children, George Carstensen of rural Neillsville, Mrs. Lorraine Galbreath of Wisconsin Rapids and Mrs. Norman (Arlene) Beilke of Granton. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Metzow of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Alfred (Lydia) Martin of Milwaukee; and 12 grandchildren.

 

Those attending the funeral service were: Mr. and Mrs. George Carstensen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Beilke and family, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams, Arthur Noah, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Beilke, William Hiles and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Braatz, all of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. James Barth and Mr. and Mrs. John Barth of Chili; Ted Enlow of Watertown, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. D. Lange and sons, Mrs. Hilda Metzow, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Carsten of Milwaukee; Earl Galbreath, and Mrs. Lori Galbreath and family of Wisconsin Rapids; and Mrs. and Mrs. Don Schott of Bloomer.

 

Pallbearers were: Terry Becker, James Barth, Oliver Williams, Leonard St. John, William Hiles, and Franklin Jensen.

 

"Take My Hand Precious Lord" and "Nearer Still Nearer" were sung by Mrs. W. C. Koehler, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
