Schumacher, Lawrence "Larry" Lavern (8 June 1946 - 9 February 2012)

Larry Schumacher, 65, of Neillsville died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at his home.

Lawrence Lavern Schumacher was born June 8, 1946, in Granton, the son of Vernon and Lavern (Lang) Schumacher.  He attended and graduated from Granton High School in 1964 and then attended Eau Claire Technical College for Diesel Mechanic. Larry then followed his father and worked as a diesel mechanic at Mid-State Trucking in Marshfield for a few years.

In September of 1969 he was united in marriage to Sandra Hammerle at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton.  They divorced many years later.  Larry and his father also worked together at Galvin Trucking in Abbotsford.  Larry worked there for many years before moving over to Trieweiler Construction Company in Marshfield.  Most recently he worked at Opelt’s Sand and Gravel driving truck before retiring in 2008 at the age of 62.

In his spare time Larry enjoyed restoring old cars as a hobby.  He also enjoyed listening to 1950s and 1960s music.  Larry was a kind, caring person and had a soft spot in his heart for children and stray animals.

He is survived by his children, Ronald (Lydia) Schumacher of Neillsville and Candy (fiancée John Weinzinger) Barth of Junction City; five grandchildren, Bailey Schumacher, Logan Jansen, Wendy Barth, Mason Barth and Kelly Barth.  Larry is also survived by a brother, Edwin "Butch" Schumacher, of Green Bay; a sister, Val and her husband of Two Rivers; and a sister-in-law, Helen Schumacher of Evansville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leonard.

A memorial service for Larry will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Gesche Funeral home in Neillsville, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Vince Canfield will officiate.  Interment will be in the Windfall Cemetery in Granton at a later date.
