Rev. Wineke welcomed as interim pastor at UCC

The Rev. William R. Wineke is the new interim pastor for First United Church of Christ in Colby and for Christ United Church of Christ in Athens.

He will serve the congregations until they can select a permanent pastor, most likely in late spring.

Wineke, a native of Madison, is a graduate of UW-Madison and the Chicago Theological Seminary. He has been an ordained pastor of the United Church of Christ since 1970.

He spent most of his career as a reporter and columnist for the Wisconsin State Journal, retiring from the newspaper in 208. He currently writes a weekly column for channel3000.com, the website of a Madison television station.

During his reporting years, Wineke served as chaplain of the Wisconsin Rescue Mission, a small nondenominational church that proved religious services, meals and other help to the poor, particularly to those addicted to alcohol or drugs and to people with mental illness.

Wineke and his wife Jacqueline live in Stoughton with their border collie, Taco, and cat, Fred. During his time as pastor in Colby and Athens, Wineke lives in the First UCC parsonage in Colby.
