Sternitzky, Betty Jane (Marriage - 22 August 1964)

Betty Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sternitzky of Rt. 1 Granton, exchanged marriage vows Saturday in a double ring ceremony performed by the Rev. F. C. Benecke in the Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, with Jeffrey David Baxter of West Bend, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederic Baxter of West Bend. Bouquets of white and blue flowers graced each side of the altar. The pews were marked with white satin bows.

Approximately 200 guests witnessed as the bride approached the altar with her father, who gave her in marriage.

Her floor length gown of imported rayon organza featured a fitted bodice with a Sabrina neckline, outlined with re-embroidery.  Long sleeves of Chantilly lace came to a point at the wrists. The very full bouffant skirt had lace appliqués repeated in the front, with the back of the skirt featuring a looped panel and a chapel train. Her bouffant veil of imported illusion was attached to a crown of crystals and seed pearls. She carried a white lace covered prayer book, topped with a gardenia and leaves.

Miss Barbara Sternitzky served as her sister’s maid-of-honor.  Another, sister, Miss Bonnie Sternitzky was a bridesmaid.  Other bridesmaids were Mrs. Erland (Velda) Greeler of Neillsville and Miss Mary Ann Anderson of Portage.

The attendants wore floor length gowns of French blue taffeta, peau styled, with fitted bodices, modified scoop necklines and short sleeves. Their bell-shaped skirts were styled with Watteaus that fell from the backs.  Matching headpieces were half hats of peau petals, enhanced with nose veils.  They carried cascade arrangements of white pompons and pink sweetheart roses entwined with ivy.

Bestman was Thomas Albrecht of West Bend.  Groomsmen, who also were the ushers, were Ernie Sternitzky of Tinker AFB, Okla., Bill Teter of Granton and Ames Seefeld of West Bend.

William Chambers of Loyal sang, "The Wedding Prayer" and "The Lord’s Prayer," accompanied at the organ by Keith Gardner of Stevens Point.

A 5 p.m. dinner was served in the church parlors, attended by 200 guests.

The bride is a graduate of Granton High School and Wisconsin State University of Stevens Point. She teaches fifth grade social studies in the upper elementary school in Portage.  She is, at present, secretary of the Portage Education Association.

Mr. Baxter, a graduate of the Wisconsin State University of Platteville, teaches industrial arts in Portage senior high school.

Mr. and Mrs. Baxter will reside at 613 Mac Farlane Rd., Portage, on their return from a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin.

Prior to the wedding the bride-elect was honored at a dinner at a Marshfield club and at two showers in West Bend.  The groom’s parents were hosts at a rehearsal dinner at a hotel in Marshfield.
