Bredlau, Walter (14 DEC 1909-04 JAN 2012)

 

Walter E. Bredlau, 102, Loyal, died on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Lakeland Health Care Center, Elkorn. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal. Aaron Kuehmichel officiated. Burial followed in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery.

 

Walter Ernest Bredlau was born on Dec. 14, 1909, in the town of Beaver, rural Loyal, the son of John H. and Mary (nee Torch) Bredlau. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at Sunnyside School in the town of Beaver. After completing his education, he helped his father on the farm, worked at Alfred Mandel’s cheese factory during the summer and worked with his brother, George. He took over the operation of his family farm from his father. He married Emma Amelia Haslow on May 26, 1932, in Withee. He retired from farming in September 1968 due to ill health. They moved into Loyal where Walter worked part-time for EZ-Camper, Wick Building in Spencer, and for Roth Manufacturing in Loyal. He resided in Loyal until moving to Walworth in 2007. He was a devoted student of the Bible. He had many interests. He had many interests but especially loved fishing, reading, poetry, gardening, raising grapes and berries, making furniture and helping others.

 

Survivors include one daughter; Elaine Benn, Tucson, Arizona; one son, John (Carol) Bredlau, Harvard, Ill.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma, on Nov. 1, 1984; a son-in-law, Larry H. Benn; two sisters, Edith Berndt, and her husband Gerald; and Dorothy Haslow, and her husband, John; and one brother, George Bredlau, and his wife, Hilda.
