Scherer, Mr. and Mrs. Nick (Golden - 10 June 1964)

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Scherer of 201 Grand Ave., Neillsville, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 6, by holding open house at the American Legion Hall beginning at 5 p.m.

Nick Scherer and the former Elsie Snyder were married June 10, 1914, in Neillsville by the late Rev. Mr. Risser of the Congregational Church. Their attendants were Mrs.  Scherer’s brother, E. H. Snyder, and the late Jessie Dwyer, who later became Mrs. Snyder.

Mr. and Mrs. Scherer are the parents of two children: a son, Charles of Milwaukee, and a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Betty) Malone, also of Milwaukee. They have six grandchildren.

Nick Scherer has been in the laundry and dry cleaning business most of his life.  He and his brother and the late Matt Scherer, both started their laundry careers in a building formerly located on the lot now occupied by the I. G. A. parking lot. The business was owned by a Mr. Kirby.  Later the two brothers started a business of their own in a building uptown now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Dan Brewer.  They later moved across the street to the present site of the Model Laundry.  Since selling the business more than 30 years ago Mr. Scherer has continued working in the plant.  At present he is semi-retired, working there part-time.

He has retired from the Neillsville volunteer fire department on which he served 55 years.

No invitations are being sent for the open house. All of their friends and relatives are invited to the anniversary celebration.

Mrs. Scherer prior to her marriage taught school in Lynn and at the Reed School on Pleasant Ridge.
