Burss, Louisa (6 MAR 1878 - 8 AUG 1959)

 

Mrs. Louisa Burss, 81, passed away at the Havenet Old Age Home at Owen on Saturday, Aug. 8, 1959, of a stroke.

 

The former Louisa Schmidt was born in Sheboygan, Wis., on March 6, 1878.  She came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) about two years before her marriage to Charles Ed Burss here in 1897.  Mr. Burss died in 1943.  They resided on a farm south of here until moving to the village in 1920, and she has been a resident of this community since that time.  She maintained her home in Thorp and spent part of her time with her children, but lived at the Havenet Home at Owen.

 

She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Thorp and was active in that organization for man years.

 

Surviving her are four sons, Russell of Milwaukee, Vilas of Cleveland, Ohio, Vernon of Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif., and Leland of Milwaukee; two daughters, Phoena, Mrs. E. Jacob of Kohler, Wis., and Hazel, Mrs. Elmer Reichow of St. Paul; four brothers, Ed Schmidt, Fred Henry and Carl, all of Sheboygan; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Schaeles and Mrs. Minnie Hastenstein of Sheboygan; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Cecil Ward at 2:00 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 11, 1959, at the Thorp Funeral Home and interment followed in the Sylvan Cemetery at Reseburg.  Pallbearers were Hugh Schauers, Louis Boardman, Harry Quelle, Edmund cook, Chet Glasshof and Vilas Telford.
