Horvat, Betty (Marriage - 17 August 1963)

Nuptial vows were exchanged Saturday morning in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood, uniting in marriage Miss Betty Horvat, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Klune of Greenwood, and Jack A. Abel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Abel of Greenwood. The Rev. Edward Hartung performed the double ring ceremony before an altar adorned with baskets of gladioli.

One hundred fifty guests witnessed as the bride’s uncle gave her in marriage. For her wedding she wore a floor length gown of French imported Chantilly lace.  The Basque bodice featured a scalloped neckline, accented by a satin bow and long, tapered sleeves that buttoned at the wrist.  The bodice was complemented by cascading tiers of lace; and the back of the bouffant skirt featured a bustle of bridal satin.

Her fingertip veil of bridal illusion was attached to a Queen’s crown of imported pearls on crysettes. She carried a cascade bouquet of stephanotis, centered with a white orchid.

Mrs. Edward Klune of Appleton served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Marjorie Tolaney of Willard and Sandra Thiel of Greenwood. They wore identical dresses of aqua embossed satin over skirts of nylon organza. Ballerina-length dresses were accented with large rear bows. Their headpieces matched the color of their dresses and were styled with shoulder length veils. They carried bouquets of mixed summer flowers.

Edward Klune of Appleton was bestman.  Groomsmen were Bruce Thiel of Greenwood and Gary Abel of Racine.  Randy Dill, a nephew of the groom, carried the rings on a white satin pillow. Wendy Abel of Racine, a niece of the groom, carried a basket of mixed flowers as flowergirl.  She was attired in a street length gown of white nylon organza, decorated with eyelet scallops.

The Children’s choir of St. Mary’s furnished the nuptial music.

A reception for 250 guests was held at the Bruce Thiel home in Greenwood.

Mr. and Mrs. Abel will live in Greenwood on their return from a wedding trip to Glacier National Park. Both are graduates of Greenwood High School.  Mr. Abel is a milk hauler and works in Marshfield.  Mrs. Abel has been assisting her uncle and aunt in the restaurant business.

Guests at the wedding came from Kentucky, Illinois, California, and Racine, Wauwatosa, Appleton, Kaukauna, Colby, Marshfield, Willard, Owen, Greenwood, Jefferson, Cedarburg, Neillsville and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
