Gruba, John F. (11 FEB 1875 - 13 JUL 1959)

 

John F. Gruba, a resident of Route 3, Stanley, Town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.), died Monday morning at 11 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Stuttgen in Chippewa Falls, at the age of 84.

 

Mr. Gruba was born in Danzig, Germany, Feb. 11, 1875.  He came to the United States with his parents at the age of five and lived near Chicago.  His marriage to Martha Czankowski took place in Grandville, S.D., in 1901.  For 20 years they lived near Delano, Minn., coming to Wisconsin in 1923, settling near Thorp.  They moved to Worden in 1937, and 32 years ago he came to Stanley to live with his daughter.

 

Surviving are five sons and six daughters, John and All, at home; Clement, Tony and Louis of Stanley; Sister Mary Hyacinth, Brenham, Texas; Sister Mary Ursula, Liberty, Texas; Cecilia at home; Mrs. Ambrose (Agnes) Felix of Stanley; and Mrs. Frank (Eleanor) Stuttgen of Chippewa Falls; 14 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Henning, Grandville, S.D.; Miss Mary Gruba and Mrs. Thomas Roskowska, both of Delano, Minn.  He was preceded in death by his wife in 1928; one son Father Bernard, who was studying for the priesthood an died in 1931, and a daughter in infancy.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Ann’s Church in Stanley with Father Edward Cramer officiating.  Interment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Thorp.
