Benzschawel, Nick (30 MAR 1892 - 27 DEC 1958)

 

Funeral services were held in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church here at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30th, for Nick Benzschawel, 66, of the City of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), who died at his home here Saturday morning, Dec. 27th, 1958 of a heart attack.  Rev. Herbert Hoffman officiated.

 

Mr. Benzschawel was born March 30, 1892 in Sherwood, Wis.  He came with his parents to Thorp and has been a resident of this community for the past 60 years.  He attended the local schools and for many years operated a farm at Sterling, just east of Thorp.

 

He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Bernard’s Holy Name Society.

 

Surviving him are his wife, Mary, one son, Matt Benzschawel, Oak Lawn, Ill., three daughters, Marie, Mrs. Delton Ebben, Cecilia, Mrs. Peter Moskiewicz and Bernice, Mrs. Robert Soeller of Thorp; five brothers, Joseph, Anton, Robert and Frank Benzschawel of Thorp, and Peter Benzschawel of Madison; three sisters, Edith, Mrs. Andrew Heiman and Margaret, Mrs. Anton J. Micke, of Thorp, and Clara, Mrs. Otto Schoenberger of St. Paul.

 

He was laid to rest in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Larry Moskiewicz, Peter Moskiewicz, Dale Ebben, Kenneth Benzschawel, Reinhold Benzschawel and Ronald Benzschawel.

 

Fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive him.  One daughter, Anna, preceded him in death.
