Wayslenko, Wasyl (? - 15 March 1963)

The body of Wasyl Wayslenko, 33, of Rt. 1 Neillsville, who was found dead in his barn about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, was taken to Chicago for burial.

Wayslenko was found in the hay mow of his barn by Fred Jensen, a neighbor, and Undersheriff Pat McIntyre. They had searched for several hours at and near the farm, three miles southeast of the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. County authorities said he had taken his own life. A Neillsville physician who was called by officers said that he had been dead for approximately a day.

Subsequent information received by the sheriff’s department revealed that Wayslenko had telephoned relatives in Chicago more than once last Friday morning to tell of his decision to take his life.  His father, Victor, who lived with the bachelor on his farm until recently, presently is living with a daughter in Chicago.

Jensen told authorities that he had seen Wayslenko about 11 a.m. Friday.  He apparently was the last person to see him alive.

Just before they found the body in the hay mow, Undersheriff McIntyre said, his cap was found in the mow.  It was guarded by Wayslenko’s dog.  The dog growled and bared his fangs when Jensen started to retrieve the cap, refusing to allow the men to come close to the cap until after the body of his master was found.
