Grap, Ferdinand Johann (6 August 1873 - 6 March 1963)

 

Funeral services for Ferdinand Johann Grap, 89, of Rt. 3, Neillsville, were conducted Saturday from Immanuel Lutheran Church, at Globe.  The Rev. J;. G. Ruege officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

 

Mr. Grap died March 6, in Milwaukee County Hospital, where he was taken after becoming ill while visiting with his children in Milwaukee.

 

Mr. Grap was born August 6, 1873, in Germany and came with his parents, Ferdinand and Wilhelmina (Schultz) Grap, to America when he was eight years old (aboard the "Hermann", 14 Jul 1882). The family located on a farm in the Globe area, being one of the first pioneer families in that area.  Mr. Grap attended school in Germany for a few years and finished his education in the Fairview School near Globe.

 

On October 12, 1899, he was married to the former Martha Kalsow in Globe.  He had resided in the Town of Weston since his arrival from Germany, and had been engaged in farming.  He also was a member of the town board for several years and was active in public affairs.  Mrs. and Mrs. Grap had gone to Milwaukee January 28 to spend the winter with their sons and their families.

 

He is survived by five sons, Walter, Paul and Carl of Milwaukee; Frederick, Sr. of Neillsville; and Marvin of Rockford, Ill.  Other survivors include 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were: Edgar, Ernest and Irvin Grap, Martin, Wilbert and Raymond Kalsow.

 

The church choir sang, "Asleep in Jesus" and "I would see Thee", and the congregation sang "Jesus Lead Thou on," accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Wagner.
