Zarada, Edward (11 OCT 1902 - 7 APR 1958)

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Francis Piekarski at ten o’clock Thursday morning, April 10^th at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Chapel for Edward S. Zarada, 55, owner of the Zarada Electric & Appliance store here.

He died at 10:15 Monday evening at his home in the city following a heart attack.

Edward Stanley Zarada was born in Thorp on Oct. 11, 1902 and attended the local public schools.  He was employed at the Thorp Hardware Co. here for a number of years as clerk and salesman.  He also operated the moving picture machines at the old Thorp Opera House and the Thorp Theater, and was one of the partners who built and operated the Mileaway Dance Pavilion for several years.  During World War II he was engaged in defense work as an electrician in Newfoundland, Minneapolis and Eau Claire, and upon his return to Thorp was employed by the Central Refrigeration until he went into business for himself.

He was united to Christine Peterson of Withee on Oct. 24, 1926.  To this union ten children were born.  He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas, who was killed in 1951 during the Korean conflict.  His mother passed away in 1931 and his father in Feb. 1958.

Surviving him are his wife and five daughters, Mrs. Dorval Karlen, Eau Claire, Mrs. Harvey Arreguin, Chicago, Mrs. Bruce Chronister, Portales, N.M., and Edith and Susan at home; four sons, Richard, Robert, Frank and John and home, and four grandchildren.

Burial was made in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.  Pallbearers were George Panek, Wm. J. Nolechek, Joseph Pabich, Ray Zaborowski, Leon Kaczmarek and Casey Kubiszewski.
