Newell, Judy Kay (Marriage –2 February 1963)

Judy Kay Newell of St. Paul, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Newell of Humbird, and Gordon Staves of St. Paul, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Staves of Humbird, were married February 2, in St. John’s United Church of Christ, the Rev. Jack Grether officiating.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a bouffant floor length gown of scalloped lace over bridal taffeta, with long, tapered sleeves, and featuring a Sabrina neckline. Her bouffant veil of silk illusion was secured by a crown of pearls and drops of aurora borealis.  She carried a bouquet of white carnations and sweetheart roses, accented with green ivy.

Her sister, Mrs. Sharon Fitzpatrick, as matron of honor wore a red velveteen ballerina-length dress trimmed with white fur. Attired in identical dresses were the bridesmaids, Christine Newell, sister of the bride and Bonnie Walton, cousin of the groom, all with matching red shoes and headpieces of red velveteen with bush veils.

Claire Staves, the groom’s brother, was bestman; Duane Staves and Bernard Holman were groomsmen.  Ushers were Duane Newell and Larry Peterson.

The bride’s mother chose a beige dress and the groom’s mother a blue dress, both with matching accessories.

A reception was held in the church basement immediately following the ceremony. There were guests from Janesville, Altoona, Milwaukee, Beloit, St. Paul, Minn., Eau Claire, Colfax, Rockford, Ill., and local folks who gathered to give their best wishes to the young couple.

The newlyweds have purchased a new trailer-house and will make their home at (number blurred) Cedar Drive, Landfall Village St. Paul, Minn.  They left for there immediately following the reception.
