Monday of this week was a red-letter day for V. O. (Vern) Kauffman, manager of the local branch of the O & N Lumber Co., for it marked the completion for him of 37 years of service with that firm. He is the third oldest O & N employee in point of service.

Vern experienced another red-letter occasion recently when he was awarded an engraved plaque by company president Ralph Owen at a banquet for the firm’s employees in Eau Claire.

The engraved inscription on the plaque reads "Pathmaker Award for outstanding yard management from the condition of the premises on up through promptness in filing reports, meeting obligations ect.

This is the first year that the award has been made and it represents quite an achievement since the competition involves 30 yards which the company owns, some of them of considerable size.
