Girard, Robert Franklin (21 December 1927 - 3 September 2011)

 

Robert F. Girard, age 83, of Thorp, passed away at Oakbrook Health & Rehab, in Thorp, on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Thorp Funeral Home, with Pastor Arnold Lein officiating.  Interment of cremains was held on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Glen haven Memorial Gardens in Crystal, MN. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

 

Robert Franklin Girard was born on Dec. 21, 1927, in rural Stanley, to Marshall and Phoebe (Audorff) Girard, Sr.  He was raised on the family farm and received his education at Stanley area schools.  He was united in marriage to Annie Sakai in 1949.  She preceded him in death.  Robert was united in marriage to Delores Fryza at Community Alliance Church, in Withee, on April 12, 1997. Robert had several jobs over the years, but most recently was a crane operator for a steel tubing manufacturer in the Twin Cities. 

 

Robert had many interests, including camping, bicycling, bowling and singing in his church choir.

 

He is survived by his  wife, Delores Girard, of Thorp; three sons: Edward (Candace) Girard of Omaha, NE, Bruce (Gail) Girard of Bloomington, MN, and Ronald (Shelly) Girard of Buffalo, MN; four step-children: Jeff (Diane) Fryza of Lublin, Gloria Nissen of Lublin, Linda Ramirez of Menomonie, Lori (David Lutz) Alger of Thorp; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three siblings: John (Naomi) Girard of Stanley, Marshall Girard, Jr. of Stanley, Alvina (Les) Sielaff of Milwaukee; one step-sister-in-law, Irene Nelson, of Florida; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Annie; one step-son, Gary Fryza; one step-sister-in-law, Rose Szymoniak; and two step-brothers-in-laws: Walter and Edward Ruda.
