Mulvaney, Loren F. "Mully" (5 March 1930 - 9 September 2011)

Loren F. Mulvaney, 81, of Merrillan passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, in his home while surrounded and cared for by his family.

Loren was born March 5, 1930, in Spring Valley to Franklin and Eva (Schmidt) Mulvaney.  He was raised in the Spring Valley/Wilson area and graduated from Spring Valley High School.

He was employed as a telegrapher/dispatcher by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for over 25 years.

In addition to having lived in Spring Valley/Wilson and Merrillan, Loren had also lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Loren married Marlene M. "Molly" Schlafke in August of 1956 in Marshfield. They moved to Merrillan where they owned and operated a snowmobile shop/pool hall.  They next bought the Motel Merrillan, which they operated for 20 years.  Molly Mulvaney died Jan. 2, 2008.

Loren enjoyed the outdoors and golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, going to casinos, playing cards, karaoke, dancing, whistling and singing.  He was very family oriented and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Loren had a way of impacting many lives.  He also enjoyed his hunting trips out west.  Loren had a passion for building things.  He was known as a creative inventor, and he has a patent on a portable pistol/rifle shooting stand.

He will be dearly missed by many people.

Survivors include a son, Timothy Mulvaney of Alma; a daughter, Laurinda (Scott) Ruxton of Merrillan; grandchildren, Jennifer (Darrell) Zawistowski, Loren (Nikki) Parker, Stephanie (Luis) Durán, Dustin Ruxton, Andrew Schroeder and Wyatt Mulvaney; great grandchildren, Mystic, Yasmin, Vanessa, D’ante, Kelsea, Aiden, Thatcher, Stratton and Daxton, and two more "on the way;" and two sisters, Beverly Bune of Spring Valley and Deloris Kongshaug of Wilson.
