Schwantes, Kenneth A. (11 FEB 1930 - 2 AUG 2011)

Kenneth A. Schwantes, 81 of Marshfield, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital. 

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield. Rev. Chris Schwanz will officiate. The American Legion Post 54 will conduct Military Honors following the funeral service. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, where an Elks Lodge of Sorrow will be held at 7 p.m.. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.

Ken was born Feb. 11, 1930 in Spencer, the son of Alvin and Rosalind (Schultz) Schwantes. He attended rural Spencer schools. 

Ken served in the US Army during the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to the former Anita Cook on September 24, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. 

Ken owned and operated Wildwood Campers, Inc. of Marshfield from 1967 until the time of his retirement. 

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Marshfield Elks Lodge BPOE #665. 

He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Ken was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping, bowling and an occasional trip to the casino. 

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Anita Schwantes, Marshfield, daughters, Sue (Doug) Brandt, Marshfield, Karen (Tom) Niehaus, Marshfield and Jayne (Steve) Lau, Marshfield, grandchildren, Jim (Melissa) Brandt, Scott (Jenny) Brandt, Mike (Jessica Bennett) Brandt, Ryan (Kim) Niehaus, Corrie Niehaus, Kelli (Rick Seidl) Craft and Daniel (Samantha Giera) Craft and great-grandchildren, Payton and Carter Brandt, Carson and Logan Brandt and Evan and Austin Niehaus. Also survived by brother, Verlyn (Myrna) Schwantes of Knowlton and Mother-in-law, Bertha Cook, Sheboygan Falls, as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. 

Ken was predeceased by a brother in infancy, his father and mother and father-in-law. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Ken's name for Immanuel Lutheran Church and School.
