Walter, Mary (01 JUNE 1862-? SEPT 1956)

Mrs. Mary Walter, 94, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saturday, at 1:30 p.m. She had been a patient there since September 7, when she had broken a hip. Death was the result of complications of this fracture and old age.

Mrs. Mary Walter (nee Hoeser) was born in Bavaria, Germany, June 1, 1862. She was married to George Walter in 1881. They came to America with two sons in 1888, about 68 years ago. They settled on a farm in Heintown. Following the death of her husband in 1936, she continued to make her home on this same farm, living with her son Tony and his family.

Mrs. Walter was a quiet, home loving mother, devoted to her family and her church. She was the oldest member of St. Anthony’s parish and the mother of eight children, John, George, Joe, Louis, Tony, Mrs. Leo (Mary) Schecklmann, Miss Ann Walter, and a son who died six years ago. The surviving children live in this vicinity. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 Tuesday morning in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Norbert King officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

A general rosary was said at the Myre Funeral Home Monday evening.

Pallbearers were six grandsons, George Schecklmann, Edward Schecklmann, Frank Walter, Franklin Walter, Eugene Walter, and Albert Walter.
